Field observations:
April 2010 During my April 2010 visit to the lower desert of Imperial Co., I collected a single Cucullia larva of this species, reared it through to adult, but never followed through with documenting the resulting species.
April 2011 returned to locality to re-collect larva, but with no success. Most of the host plant from 2010 was dead or missing.
May 13, 2012 was able to collect several specimens of the mystery Cucullia. Larvae found from early to late instars. Other larvae sharing the host plant in habitat: -Kodiosoma fluva and Schinia scarlatina.
  - larvae very similar to Cucullia basipuncta that I have collected from western Arizona to eastern Arizona, therefore species possible Cucullia mcdunnoughi.
