Behavior notes (ovum, larva, pupa, adult) |
Cochis Co., AZ specimen pupated underground without cocoon.
Mohave Co.,AZ specimens pupated underground, within sealed cocoon capsule.
Mohave Co., AZ- larva creates cocoon chamber underground for pupation. Cocoon form is support by larval secretion. This secretion is either to lock in moisture/lock out dry conditions, or secretion possibly contains plant iridoids to protect pupa from predators. Cocoon is same type structure Lepipolys perscripta makes in the lower Colorado Desert of Imperial Co., CA.
larva wiggles its head like Lepipolys perscripta. Also, larva wiggles its tail during release of frass.
